K.P.A.C. Lalitha inagurates Nataka Yatra

National award winning Malayalam actress K.P.A.C. Lalitha has inaugurated ‘Nataka Yatra’, a series of drama performances to herald the Asian Theatre Festival to be held from December 22 to 31, on Tuesday at Vimala College, Thrissur. A 12-member troupe will stage the performances at different places in the district till December 17.

K.P.A.C. Lalitha, wife of famous director late Bharathan, commented that the performer-viewer relationship is more organic, natural and spontaneous in theatre than in cinema. “For the same reason, I have enjoyed doing theatre more than acting in front of the camera. The creative process in filmmaking ends with editing and printing. In theatre, it is a never-ending process. A play evolves from platform to platform. Dramas written decades ago continue to inspire new interpretations,” a website affiliated to a National newspaper quoted her as saying.

Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi secretary Prabhakaran Pazhassi, ‘Nataka Yatra’ coordinator Prabalan Velur, theatre festival director J. Shailaja and Lizzie John of Vimala College were present on the occasion. ‘Nataka Yatra’ was also staged at St. Thomas College. It will be staged at the P.G. Centre and the Arimbur Jawan’s Club on Wednesday. Festival director J. Shailaja informed that ten plays would be staged in the Asian theatre festival.
