K.B. Tilak is no more

Veteran producer-director-actor Kollipara Balagangadhara Tilak, fondly called K.B. Tilak, passed away on Thursday at NIMS Hospital. He was 84 and ailing for a while. He is survived by a son.

Born in West Godavari district in 1926, nephew of the legendary director L.V. Prasad, K.B. Tilak directed over 15 movies in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Marathi, including the hits MLA, Bhumi Kosam, Muddu Bidda, Atta Oka Inti Kodalay, Chitti Tammudu, Dharmavaddi (Telugu), Kangan, Choti Bahu (Hindi), Dharmapatni (Marathi) and Maamiyaarum Oru Veetu Marumgaley (Tamil).

Notably, he introduced singer S. Janaki and actress Jayapradha to Telugu films. S. Janaki made her debut as singer in MLA (1957) with the song 'Nee Asha Adiyasa', while Jayaprada was introduced at age 15 in a small role in Bhumikosam.
