On Tuesday, Todd Phillips posted a close-up picture of Lady Gaga with blonde hair holding Joaquin Phoenix's face, on Instagram with the caption, "Happy Valentine's Day", from their film, Joker: Folie à Deux. This new picture has gone viral on social media as fans are eagerly waiting for the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster, Joker. Lady Gaga is said to be playing the iconic DC Comics character Harley Quinn in the sequel to the film that earned Phoenix his first Academy Award for Best Actor in 2020. As Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are now seen in a photo shared by Todd Phillips, Joker: Folie à Deux, or Joker 2, is expected to be a melodramatic psycho-thriller and will also include some romance. The meaning behind 'Folie à Deux' has been revealed to be "delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association." Last December, Todd Phillips posted a picture of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck from the sequel sets showing him getting a shave while announcing that filming had begun, with the official Instagram handle of DC commenting excitedly: "…love is in the air…?"
In Joker, we saw an explanation of the history and character of the most beloved antagonist in Batman's rogue gallery. The phenomenal success of the film quickly raised expectations for the sequel. Todd Phillips had gone to great lengths to illustrate Arthur Fleck's loss and the emotional void in Joker. Even though the DC media landscape has shifted in the years since the original film, Phillips' upcoming project has largely escaped the attention of the newly formed DC Studios and its co-chiefs, James Gunn and Peter Safran. Joker: Folie à Deux is set in the DC Elseworlds timeline and will open in theatres worldwide on October 4, 2024
