Jayamala case: Court issues notice to accused

Considering the importance of the Jayamala case (relating to the controversial claim made by Kannada actor Jayamala that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala in 1982), Judicial First Class Magistrate at Ranni has decided to speed up the proceedings.

In an order issued on Tuesday, the Magistrate has issued notice to all the three accused, astrologer Parappanangadi Unnikrishna Panicker (who had conducted the controversial Devaprasaram at Sabarimala in June 2006), his aide Reghupathy, and actress Jayamala, to appear before the court at Ranni on June 21.

The Magistrate's decision came in the wake of the High Court order of April 12 quashing the cognizance taken by the lower court against the accused, citing delay in filing the final report by Crime Branch Police that inquired into the Jayamala case.
