'Thalapathy' Vijay' Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is set to open in cinemas next week starting October 19 and one of the big burning questions about the upcoming film has been whether it will be a part of the much-debated Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which was first coined after a connection between the filmmaker's Kaithi (2019) starring Karthi was established in Kamal Haasan's Vikram (2022). With fans waiting with bated breath to know whether Leo is also going to be included in the LCU, lyricist Vishnu Edavan who has penned the lyrics for the songs in the upcoming Vijay-starrer, recently sat down with Galatta to share his views on the excitement among fans, while also revealing the fan theory that the team enjoyed the most.
Speaking about the possibility of Vijay's Leo being a part of the LCU, Vishnu Edavan said, "Seeing these fan theories and memes is happiness for all of us. Revealing whether Leo is in the LCU or not will be over in a second's time. But, when we come across their fan theories, it makes us think a lot more. The work that we get paid to do, they are doing a hundred times more without getting paid anything. So, in order to go one step forward, we want to surprise them. We want to add an additional dose of happiness." He continued, "And, at that juncture, maintaining a silent stance is better than saying many words. It is enjoyable to see all these theories from so many people showing so much interest. When we do something, people talking about whether what we are doing is good or not is important. And, they are doing so much with such great interest. We forward these memes within our team and have a hearty laugh."
Speaking about the one fan theory that the Leo team enjoyed a lot, Vishnu Edavan said, "There are so many. For example, there's a fan theory about a younger version of the Amar character from Vikram in Leo. Since Mathew Thomas who plays Vijay sir's son in the film and Fahadh Faasil as Amar are from the Malayalam film industry, some people began saying that they're connected. Their connections were going in different directions. We included the line 'Thael kodukku singatha Seendathappa' in the 'Naa Ready' song and everyone began assuming Suriya sir as Rolex is also in the film. We didn't plan on that. We added that because we felt it was good, but the way they built it up, felt refreshing. And, that creates excitement."
Vishnu Edavan further stated, "Characters like Rolex, Vikram, and Dilli, the so-called LCU that you keep hearing about, we too have a desire to see them all together. But, when we see you all visualizing that, it is superb. Your excitement is a hundred times bigger than what we imagined and it brings about the question of how much work we have to put in. So, when you watch Leo on October 19, whether that question is there or we have asked another query will be known."
