I'm ready to do more Malayalam films: Sarathkumar

One of the frontline heroes in Tamil cinema, Sarathkumar was recently in Kozhikode as the chief guest of a function organised by the Pazhassi Raja Charitable Trust to commemorate the 204th death anniversary of the legendary king Pazhassi Raja (1750-1805).

During his visit, the actor, who played Pazhassi Raja's chief lieutenant Edachena Kunkan in Mammootty's super hit Pazhassi Raja, admitted he that never expected he could create such an impression with his first film in Malayalam.

"If I get more applause than what the film’s hero Mammootty gets, that is because of the generosity of that fine actor; he could have chosen my character, but he did not and gave enough space to all the other characters," he said.

"Though while shooting I knew the film was shaping up well, I did not imagine it would break box-office records and impress critics so much,” he said. “The credit for my success goes to director Hariharan and scriptwriter M.T. Vasudevan Nair."

He said he would like to do more Malayalam films. “And I have been getting a few offers too, but I am in no hurry. And if Hariharan or Gokulam Gopalan (producer of Pazhassi Raja) were to offer me another film, I will consider that first; for they have given me this fabulous debut in Malayalam cinema,” he said.
