IFFI 2009 at Goa: Quality is the watchword

Quality was the watchword on Day Two of the IFFI. I Saw The Sun (Gunesi Gordum), a top-notch film from Turkey directed by Mahsun Kirmzugal left the audience shaken and stirred. The biggest hit in Turkey this year, it is the official submission for the Academy Awards in the foreign film category. Extremely well picturised, the film is touted as the best to have emerged from Turkey in the last decade.

The Italian film We can do that turned out to be equally stirring. Based on a partly true story, it is about a former businessman who runs a co-operative society with mentally ill patients. The movie has lot of tender moments with food for thought.

The documentary Superman of Malegaon turned out to be a hit with the audience. Directed by Faiza Khan, it documents how low budget films are made in Malegaon with enthusiasm and talent that is comparable with the best.

For some inexplicable reasons, the question and answer sessions with filmmakers are notbeing heldthis year.
