IFFI 2009 at Goa: Muzzafar Ali

The Indian Panorama section started with Dot in for Motion in the non-feature category and Laxmikant Shetgaonkar's Paltadchi Mania (Men across the Bridge). In all, there are 44 films, inclusive of 26 in the feature and 14 in the non-feature categories.

Renowed director Muzzafar Ali, chairperson of the jury, said the jury panel viewed 102 films and the films were selected based on the theme, structure and performance. "What we saw in the films well reflected slices of life from different parts of the country. The language of moving images will bring together brotherhood of man." The Umrao Jaan fame director felt that there is a disconnect between art and commercial cinema and too many art films are getting importance.

Anirban Datta, director of Dot in for Motion recalled the harships he underwent during the making of the film which took three years. Laxmikant Shetgaonkar, director of Paltadcho Mania, said quality films should reach the people faster.
