IFFI 2009 at Goa: Indian Cinema

The T-20 of Indian Cinema, a contest conceived by Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and successfully launched before the festival through Internet, is making waves worldwide. Lovers of Indian films have already started pitching in their votes and what comes as a surprise is that the organisers had to add 13 more films to the original list of 100-odd films originally on the website.

Launched through a specially designed website www.120ofindiancinema.com, the unique contest seeks to involve film lovers in rating the top 20 feature films of Indian Cinema, explaining the innovative name.

10 top filmmakers and 10 prominent cities from across the country will select the 20 best films from among the tens of thousands of films made over the years.

The nation-wide contest launched on November 10 is a major initiative by ESG to promote the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The contest, the first of its kind, is the brainchild of its Chief Executive Officer, Manoj Srivatsava, and aimed at involving the whole country into rating the top 20 feature films of Indian Cinema spread over the past 96 years of its existence.

The contest, which runs from November 10 to 29, will have its grand finale on Nov 30.
