History was not distorted: Pazhassi Trust

The Kozhikode-based Pazhassi Charitable Trust on Wednesday refuted allegations that "history was distorted" by director Hariharan and scriptwriter M.T. Vasudevan Nair in their recent magnum opus historical film Pazhassi Raja, starring Mammootty and Sarathkumar in the lead.

Trust chairman Pramod Kumar and founder-trustee Peeyush M. Namboodiripad told presspersons that they were forced to come out in defence of the film-makers, as attempts had been made to question the treatment of history in Pazhassi Raja.

They released copies of a reply to a legal notice sent by E.K. Madhavan Nair, a resident of Mananthavady, accusing the filmmakers of having shown Edachena Kunkan, Pazhassi Raja’s army commander, in poor light.

Contrary to the charge raised in the legal notice, Edachena Kunkan had been portrayed as a true hero in the film. The film itself had been successful in projecting Pazhassi Raja, Edachena Kunkan and Thalakkal Chandu as illustrious freedom fighters, they said.
