The West Cancer Research Foundation is an NGO dedicated to creating awareness about the dreaded disease, that is most often left undetected due to sheer negligence and ignorance. If cancer is detected in its early stages, there is a good chance of it being treated. However, most often it is diagnosed too late.

In an endeavour to spread awareness amongst urban women about Breast Cancer, the West Cancer Research Foundation(WCRF) has started an initiative called Chennai Turns Pink. A recent survey has pointed out that there has been an exponential rise in breast cancer cases in urban cities and that lack of awareness is the reason why most of these women (educated women, even) fall prey to this disease. Through the Chennai Turns Pink initiative WCRF targets urban women within the age group of 18 to 25, and hopes to educate them on Breast Cancer and the need to do periodical check-ups to make sure that the disease is detected and treated at the earliest stage possible.

Actress Hansika, who touched us with her generosity earlier when she took nearly thirty orphaned children in Mumbai under her wing, has her heart set on Chennai Turns Pink. In a recently held press meet, the actress revealed that she was going to financially support thirty women who are to undergo treatment for Breast Cancer. Hansika hopes that her act will prompt many others to do their bit towards spreading awareness and also inspire others to help those who require financial aid. As an urban woman herself, Hansika feels it's her duty to propagate the WCRF's mission to eradicate the ignorance towards this disease.
