Govt to probe Murivu row

When Christian bodies and Opposition parties in Kerala mounted protests over a short film distributed to some teachers as a study aid, the Kerala Government on Monday said the issue would be probed and a Thrissur-based teacher, Saseendran, was suspended. The short film allegedly portrays the Church in a bad light.

The Catholic Church has come out strongly against the short filmMurivu (The Wound), which narrates the story of a man with wounds on his wrist gifting a lamb to a boy. When this lamb is run over by a car in which a person dressed like a bishop is travelling, the boy is grief-struck by this event.

Education Minister M.A. Baby said the controversial film was not meant as a study aid and that it had made its way mistakenly into a CD while downloading from the internet. Education and Home departments would however probe how the CD was distributed to a group of teachers in Thrissur district without proper verification or prior permission from authorities, Baby told a press meet.

The Education Department has placed Saseendran under suspension for failing to follow proper procedures while distributing a compact disc (CD) containing a short film Save, directed by T. Deepesh, which was acturally meant to be used as a teaching aid for Hindi lessons in Class VII. In addition to Save, Saseendran had also downloaded other short films from the Internet on the CDs he gave tofellow teachers.
