Glamour sells: Meenakshi

She may have made her debut in Karuppusamy Kuthagaitharar as a very traditionally dressed and conservative girl. But that is quite in contrast to Meenakshi’s true self. This bong babe aspired to be an actress from a very young age. She gaduated in Maths to please her parents but all the time, she nurtured her acting dream. “I don’t have a godfather or even a distant relative in the industry. My parents never really took my childhood acting dreams seriously. My family was furious with my decision to act and refused to back me. But I knew I had to do it,” says Meenakshi, who chased her dreams against all odds.

She is not averse to glamour and when you point out that she fooled us all with her look in Karuppusamy Kuthagaitharar, she merely laughs, “I signed that movie because it was very different from what you usually see. I had scope to prove my acting and for an actor, that’s what's important.” But what about the glam roles that have followed? Is glamour as important?

“For an actress to be successful, she must look good and act well. But today, glamour is equally important. Cinema endeavours to give audiences what they want, what they would like top watch. Glamour sells. Audiences want glamour. The day they start asking only for saree-clad women, then we will give them that,” is Meenakshi’s honest reply and you got to hand it to her for speaking the truth with no reservation.
