Fund for destitute musicians

In a bid to provide financial aid to destitute musicians who were rendered jobless with the advancement of technology in the music industry, and those suffering from health problems, veteran playback singer K.S. Chithra will launch a benevolent fund titled 'Sneha' with the support of Kerala-based cable network ACV.

Chithra, who completes 30 years in music this year, said that there were many instrumental musicians who lost their jobs with the coming of technology in music industry. Recalling her earlier days as a singer, she said film songs recordings used to done along with live orchestra playing. Now technology has replaced the instruments.

"Things have changed now. Some time we know the duet singing parter only when one saw a cassette of the songs," she said. Senior musicians used to give tips on various aspects, she said, adding, "All those things have become a memory." The fund will be formally launched on February 15 at a function organised to felicitate Chithra on completing 30 years of film music.
