Farewell, Sydney Pollack

Sydney Pollack, one of the most magnificent directors of Hollywood who gave some of the most memorable movies like Tootsie, Out of Africa, The Interpreter, The Firm and others, is no more. He was suffering from cancer and was 73 years old.

He is instrumental in creating milestones in the careers of the greats of Hollywood like Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Natalie Wood, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, and many others.

His started his directing career in the 60s with TV series such as The Fugitive and Alfred Hitchcock presents.

The director loved acting very much. He sometimes starred in his own movies and sometimes in movies by others. His most memorable roles were in Tootsie and Michael Clayton. Most recently, he was seen as Patrick Dempsey’s father in Made of Honour.

He was born in Indiana, U.S.A. to Jewish immigrants from Russia.

Of his work, Tootsie and Out of Africa impressed many in India. To this date, there have been many flicks in and outside Hollywood which have been inspired by Tootsie.
