Suriya's Soorarai Pottru has been the talk of the town ever since it's release on Prime Video on November 12. This Sudha Kongara directorial has earned the love and support of the majority of the audience. Leading actors including Samantha, Vijay Deverakonda and many others expressed their liking for the film on social media. Following them, ace director Shankar took to his official Twitter page to share his opinion about the film. He revealed enjoying Soorarai Pottru and also praised GV Prakash's music in the film. Similarly, he expressed his liking for the visuals (credit: Edwin Sakay) in the recently released Tamil thriller, Andhaghaaram, that was released by his former associate Atlee.

The critically acclaimed Malayalam drama, Jallikattu, which has been selected as India's Official Entry to next year's Oscar Awards, has also garnered Shankar's attention. The Anniyan director tweeted, "Recently enjoyed … Soorarai potru movie, with soulful music by GV Prakash. Excellent cinematography by Edwin sakay in the movie Andhaghaaram. Remarkable and really different Background score by Prashant pillai for the Malayalam film Jallikkattu".

On the directorial front, Shankar is currently committed to his next magnum opus, Indian 2 that stars Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Produced by Lyca Productions, this film is the sequel to the 1996 action thriller and the fans are excited to see the Indian thatha after 25 long years. A lot more important sequences are yet to be filmed and Shankar is currently involved in planning the schedules. Indian 2 has been planned to be shot on a grand scale and it is being executed with a huge budget.

This film features an ensemble star cast that includes Kajal Aggarwal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Nedumudi Venu, Bobby Simha, Vivekh, Delhi Ganesh, Vennela Kishore, and others. Shankar, for the first time, is collaborating with young rockstar Anirudh Ravichander for the music of the film and the fans are excitedly waiting for this fresh combination to strike.
