Dhanush’s first bilingual film Vaathi got a massive theatrical release in Tamil and in Telugu, as Sir on Friday. The fans created a celebration outside theatres for FDFS across Tamil Nadu. The film, directed by Telugu film director Venky Atluri, was produced by Sithara Entertainment. Some peppy beats by GV Prakash for the film had topped charts before the release of the film. The action drama film is set in 1990 and revolves around the education system, with a social message. The film created a buzz since its announcement as the acclaimed actor is playing the role of a teacher for the first time.

Following the release, the producer of the movie Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and director Venky Atluri discussed the initial response of the film with Telugu reporters in a press meet. While questioned about the ground reports, the producer said Vaathi/Sir has received a grand reception from all centres with distributors reporting House Full shows. He said the first show saw an exciting response as occupancy rates were high even in rural areas. Naga Vamsi clarified that Sithara Production's projects from 2022, Bheemla Nayak and Dj Tillu, also received positive feedback from critics but did not do as expected in theatres but Sir has got both positive review and might cross Bheemla Nayak in collections.
Naga Vamsi went on to say that Vaathi might break Dhanush’s previous record in the Telugu industry with the film Raguvaran BTech. Dhanush’s Sir is running in 25 theatres in Hyderabad and in 40 shows across Andhra Pradesh. It shows the massive response for the first bilingual film of the actor as the producer said Vaathi has also got exceptional response in Tamil Nadu
Samyuktha has played the female lead in the film with Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Motta Rajendran in supporting roles. OTT rights for the movie was bagged by global streaming platform Netflix and Sun Network got the satellite rights.
