Dev D vs. MKMJA vs. Chal Chala Chal

It's Friday again and there are three contenders for the box office: Dev D, Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Chal Chala Chal.

Of all the three, Dev D seems to be the most promising, or at least, the only one that has managed to create quite a buzz around it. The film has lured fans to it through many promos – first, the innovative Lustline; next, the creative Dev D Mobile Game; and then, everyone's favorite track 'Emotional Atyachaar' – and created a lukewarm anticipation. Though the flick will not have an earth-shattering opening at the box office, it will definitely be the best opening in Abhay Deol's and Anurag Kashyap's careers.

For all those new to Dev D, the movie is a modern-day interpretation of the classic novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra. Director Anurag Kashyap has given a chic, trendy and iconoclastic feel to it.

Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye (or MKMJA) is Raima Sen's way of wooing women – it is about how an ordinary woman pinned down by her daily chores comes out of her domestic shell and makes it big in the social scene. In the movie, Raima is a housewife who, like most Indian housewives, think her husband to be good and loving. But he proves otherwise with an extramarital affair. With the help of her young band of women neighbours, she seeks vendetta on her husband. MKMJA is directed by Madhureeta Anand and has Randeep Hoota, Raima Sen and Arbaaz Khan in the lead roles.

Chal Chala Chal is Govinda all the way. The actor features as a simpleton, who, unwilling to succumb to the corrupt system around him, plans to earn his living by running a transport corporation Chal Chala Chal. Though he only has a single bus, he manages to hit the roads and run it well. But as always, corrupt officials intervene and block his progress. Withthese three films hitting the box office today, we have to wait and watch for the audienceverdict in the coming weeks.
