DD annual awards ceremony in Hyderabad

The ninth edition of Doordarshan’s annual awards ceremony will be held at Shilpakala Vedika, Hyderabad on Monday. Chief Minister K. Rosaiah will be the chief guest and State Information and Broadcasting Minister S. Jagathrakshakan will be the guest of honour.

The awards are given in 56 different categories, including the best kendra, most innovative programme and for the best of music, documentary, women’s, children’s, sports and news reports. Hyderabad is hosting the event for the first time since the awards were instituted in 2001.

The function will be followed by a cultural evening, including a vibrant dance programme by choreographer Lawrence with his troupe of physically-challenged students, popular film songs by Chitra and Mohit Chauhan. Prominent artistes including Bhoomika Chawla and qawwali performer Aziz Ahmed Khan will also perform.

Meanwhile, following the footsteps of many other entertainment channels, Doordarshan would rerun its old serials. Doordarshan had plans to re-telecast the ever popular serial ‘Hum log’ from January. A new serial will be ‘Nanhi si kali’.

The two serials, which would be aired soon, are a part of the DD’s endeavour to spruce up its programmes to get into the Top 10 slot of cable and satellite television programmes, said its Director-General Aruna Sharma on Sunday.
