Chennai-based film club, Cinema Rendezvous invited eminent Kannada filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli for the screening of his own biography - Life in Metaphors. Being one of the pioneers of parallel cinema, he is best known for his films like Ghatashraddha, Thayi Saheba and Gulabi Talkies. In an exclusive chat with Galatta, Kasaravalli says, "Cinema is one. We (filmmakers) don't differentiate cinema into commercial and parallel. It's the critics who categorize them." His love for films is evident in his voice as he discusses cinema, scripts and literature in detail. Being an avid reader, he tells us that he draws inspiration for his films from Kannada literature. Girish Kasaravalli has won 14 National awards, several international honours and a Padma Shri from the Government of India. The film club had him over as a guest for their monthly film-screening and discussion. Cinema Rendezvous is a non-profit initiative to bring all film buffs together. The trust organizes film screenings, discussions, interactions with experts and workshops regularly.
