Azhar's father demands more

Just a few days ago, life seemed to be a fairy tale to Azharuddin, Slumdog Millionaire's youngest Salim. Red carpets, black tuxedos, lights, cameras and showbiz were the order of the day for him. The Oscars were a never-ever-imagined dream in the little lad's life. It was the icing on the cake when he got to visit the most-entertaining Disneyland too. But reality has barged into his life again! He is back in his family's shack and his father has beaten himfor refusing to speak to a reporter.

This time, it is not about Azhar returning to slums or his father assaulting him, it is about his father's demand for more money. The father is reported to have asked for more money after it was revealed that his son would get less than 20,000 pounds for his work. According to reports, the boy was paid 700 pounds during filming, while the rest (about 17500 pounds) were cast aside and put into a trust which the boy will receive when he is 18 years old. Azhar's family is also said to receive a house worth 20000 pounds.

However, Azhar's father is not happy in spite of the makers' efforts to fend for the child's decent living and education. He is reported to have said that there is no use in giving money later and that he wants it immediately. “My son has taken on the world and won. I am so proud of him but I want more money. They promised me a new house but it hasn't happened. I'm still in the slum. I want the money now, it is of no use later. Mr Boyle should take care of my son”, reportedly said the lad's father.
