Avan Varuvaan

Medical and healthcare scams have always been among the favourite themes for filmmakers. Be it Hollywood or Kollywood, several films based on such scams have been made time after time. Now, a similar theme forms the plot of a film being made simultaneously in Tamil (as Avan Varuvan) and Telugu (as Vadu Vasthadu); the film deals with thetotal and brutalcommercialization of medical care.

Kalyan, an erstwhile assistant of director R.K. Selvamani, takes care of the story, screenplay, and direction. Srinivas Chowdary and Roshan Badsha produce this film for K.R.C. and Indian Films. Agasthian scores the music and cinematography is handled by K. Paramanna. The film stars newcomers Kirantej and Shiley in the lead. The supporting cast comprises Rami Reddy, Senthil, Laksha, J. Lalitha, Vasuki, Velmurugan and Vijay Ganesh. The shooting is progressing briskly in Chennai and will soonshift to Ramoji Rao Film City.

PS: Till date, The Fugitive and Coma remain the best Hollywood films based on medical scams. The Fugitive still maintains its score of 94% on several American movie-based websites! Incidentally, The Fugitive’s Malayalam remake Nirnayam (Mohanlal) and Telugu remake Criminal (Nagarjuna) are the best Southern movies based on medical scams.
