Indian music composer, record producer, singer, and songwriter A. R. Rahman is world-renowned for his work in Indian cinema, with occasional forays in international cinema. He is a winner of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and seventeen Filmfare Awards South. The Indian government conferred him with the Padma Bhushan in 2010, the nation's third-highest civilian award.

After being asked numerous times for the original soundtrack of one of his recent outings, Ponniyin Selvan, Rahman has come up with a great way of making that happen. The Isai Puyal (musical storm) has planned a wonderful new years gift for his ardent fans. This album will not only comprise the OST (original soundtrack) of Ponniyin Selvan but will also contains Gautham Vasudev Menon's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu starring Silambarasan TR. This new update from the Oscar-award-winning music director has made his staunch fans very much happy and excited about this. The soundtrack consists of six original songs composed by A.R.Rahman, namely, "Ponni Nadhi", "Chola Chola", "Ratchasa Maamaney", "Sol", "Alaikadal" and "Devaralan Aattam". The Mozart of Madras made his debut as a director and writer for the film Le Musk.

Ponniyin Selvan: I is Mani Ratnam's magnum opus who co-produced it with Subaskaran Allirajah under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film serves as the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, and R. Parthiban. 

The film hit the screens worldwide on 30 September 2022 and received acclaim from film critics, who praised the direction, cast performances, musical score, visuals, and faithfulness of the novel. It broke several box-office records, became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2022, the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, and the 15th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
