Apthamithra, featuring Dr.Vishnuvardhan, was one of the biggest hits in Sandalwood. Now it is heard that P.Vasu, the director of Apthamithra, is planning�a sequel. Dr. Vishnu is confirmed for the lead role; the search for�a heroine to replace (late) Soundarya who acted in the first part is�continuing.

Apthamithra was remade in Tamil as Chandramukhi with Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Nayantara and Jyotika in the lead roles.�Apthamithra�was again a remake (of the 1993 super hit Malayalam film Manichithrathazhu directed by Fazil). Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana played the lead roles in the Malayalam version. Shobhana bagged her first National Award for her role in this film.
