Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on Friday at 1.04PM after being admitted to the MGM Healthcare hospital in Chennai on August 5 for testing COVID-19 positive. The 74-year-old singer-actor had undergone treatment for more than 50 days and had begun showing steady signs of improvement in his health, before his condition worsened on Thursday evening, with MGM Healthcare officials in their statement saying maximum life support had been extended. However, the six-time National Award-winning singer's condition had deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. SPB is survived by his wife Savithri and two children - daughter Pallavi and son SPB Charan. 

Honored by the Government of India with the Padma Bhushan in 2011 and Padma Shri in 2001, SP Balasubrahmanyam had earned a sea of fans and followers over his lifetime, with many going in person on Friday to his residence at Kamdar Nagar near Nungambakkam in Chennai for public homage and to pay their condolences. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday night made an important announcement saying the mortal remains of SPB would be laid to rest with full police honours. He went on to add in his statement that the singer-actor will always continue to find a place in the hearts of the people not only in the state, but all over India. 

The iconic singer's cremation had taken place on Saturday (September 26) at his Thamaraipakkam farmhouse in the Tiruvallur district. Earlier in the day, popular South Indian singer Mano had gone in person to pay his final respects to the celebrated singer and had been breaking down in tears upon witnessing his singing partner on stage for several years in a state of without any motion. Similarly, Tamil Nadu politician Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan, veteran director Bharathiraja along with son Manoj Bharathiraja, 'Action King' Arjun, comedy actor Mayilsamy, composer Devi Sri Prasad among many other notable celebrities had offered their condolences to the iconic singer in person. 

At SP Balasubrahmanyam's funeral, his family members among whom include SPB's wife Savithri, children Pallavi and SPB Charan along with various other people close to them are seen taking part in the proceedings. We see an emotional SPB Charan performing his father's last rites, as pictures and videos showing the proceedings are doing the rounds on social media.
