A film that has 'Superstar' Rajinikanth fans world over waiting with eager anticipation is the veteran actor's Annaatthe being directed by Siva under the Sun Pictures banner. A mega budget project, the upcoming film is touted to be a mass rural family action entertainer and has Rajinikanth collaborating with Siva after the director delivered the thunderous box office hit, Viswasam, with 'Thala' Ajith. Annaatthe, which was initially planned to come out in October, had suffered a delay in its completion in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with fans waiting for a word on when the shooting on the film will once again commence. Now, Sun Pictures have released a video on their social media pages, which has director Siva conveying his birthday wishes to Rajinikanth, while also informing fans that the shooting on Annaatthe will resume from December 15.

In Sun Pictures' video, Siva says, "On behalf of the Annaatthe team, happy birthday to 'Superstar' Rajinikanth. I pray to God that he lives a long and happy life. With the blessings of the lord and the wishes of the fans, we are resuming the shoot for Annaatthe once again." Expectations for Annaatthe are massive considering Rajinikanth's previous release Darbar failed to sizzle at the box office. Fans are hoping the film will present Rajinikanth in his full mass flair as was last witnessed in Karthik Subbaraj's Petta. Below is the Annaatthe video announcement:

Annaatthe includes a huge star cast featuring names like Meena, Khushbu, Keerthy Suresh, Prakash Raj, Soori, Sathish, Vela Ramamoorthy, Livingston, Redin Kingsley including Nayanthara, who is said to be playing a lawyer, which incidentally will be the first time she will be seen in such a role. There were reports a while back stating Keerthy Suresh would be playing Rajinikanth's sister in the film, while Telugu actor Gopichand had been cast as the antagonist, with the first visuals now being awaited. Apart from the star-studded cast, Annaatthe also boasts of a stellar technical team among whom include names like D. Imman for the music, cinematography by Vetri and editing by Ruben.
