Need of the hour is more environmental films: Mike Pandey
Mike Pandey, Head of the jury of environment films at IFFI, believes that cinema could be a strong medium to create awareness. Also, a collective effort of all can bring in positive changes.
Do we have any substitute for water and does air have any religion? These are some of the questions Pandey raised while interacting with media on environmental issues.
Appreciating the efforts of the organizers in having a specific category for environment-based films, Pandey saw the good tidings there. "I really liked the movies which showcased the challenges of mankind. They were innovative and engaging too. We need such movies to mould our societies."
However, Pandey lamented that this effort needs to be taken on a larger scale and also be included in mainstream current films, where it will have greater relevance.
Now, Pandey is busy making a film on tigers and through this, he is sending a strong message of saving this pride of our forests. "We want to make it an engaging film with an innovative concept."
Of his latest film Return of a Tiger, Pandey said it is a docu-drama where he is featuring a tigress and her three cubs, and their fight for survival as they are the last tigers left. "We need to understand that tigers kill people only for self-defence. The tiger is at the top of the food chain and by destroying the clan, we are doing harm to the whole food chain," added Pandey, who has won the Green Oscar thrice times for his outstanding work on showcasing the state of the environment through his films.
This movie is jointly produced by Bollywood actor John Abraham.
