Director Gautham Vasudev Menon’s debut directorial, Minnale, starring Madhavan and Reema Sen was a blockbuster hit that is still close to heart for a lot of people. The film was remade in Hindi with Maddy and Dia Mirza in 2001 and it was called Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein. Saif Ali Khan reprised the role played by Abbas. RHTDM has a cult fan-following and it was one of the important films that made Maddy, a very popular figure in Bollywood circles. Notably, the film also marked the debut of Dia Mirza. Following a gap of 19 years, it looks like the sequel to this much-celebrated film is on cards.

According to a report on Mid-Day, the production house has supposedly found a script that fits to be the sequel of RHTDM. The makers are said to have approached Madhavan and Dia Mirza for this project and more developments are expected to be known in the coming days. The report in Mid-Day stated, “The makers toyed with some concepts, on and off, over the years. Only now have they found a script that has appealed to everyone and seems a natural progression to the lives of Maddy and Reena [the characters essayed by Madhavan and Mirza respectively]. The script is in the final stage of development." The mature love story will apparently explore the disillusionment that creeps into their marriage and how they attempt to revive their relationship.

However, it is not known if Gautham Menon would helm this project, as he is already committed to a few other projects in Kollywood. Post the lockdown, GVM will finish the filming of Joshua: Imai Pol Kaakha after which he will focus on the release works of Chiyaan Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram. Post these two films, Gautham will be doing a Tamil web series for Prime Video, that will be shot by ace cinematographer P.C.Sreeram. Having said these, we will have to wait for a few more months to know who would direct the sequel of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
