Kangana Ranaut's Thalaivi, which was scheduled to release in theatres on April 23, has now been postponed to a later date. This change of plan has occurred due to the increase in the number of Covid 19 cases across the country. Additionally, the theatres in Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, will function only with 50% occupancy and that could also be another reason. The makers released an official statement in which it was stated that, "Dear audience, we are extremely grateful for the tremendous response and unconditional love you've shown for Thalaivi trailer. As a team, we have sacrificed a lot in making this film and thank every member of the cast and crew who supported us in this challenging but remarkable journey.

Since the film has been made in multiple languages, we would like to release it in all languages on the same day. But with an alarming rise in Covid 19 cases, subsequent precautions, and lockdowns, even though our film is ready for release on 23rd April, we want to extend all the support towards the Government rules and regulations and have decided to postpone release of Thalaivi. Though we are deferring the release date, we are confident that we will receive as much love from you all then as well. Stay safe and looking forward to everyone's support.".

Thalaivi is directed by Vijay and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh under the banner of Vibri Media, in association with Karma Media and Entertainment and Zee Studios. The film, which is the biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, features Kangana Ranaut in the titular character and has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar. Arvind Swami will be playing the role of the iconic leader and actor MGR and his makeover is one of the major highlights of the film. Thalaivi's star cast also includes the likes of Samuthirakani, Madhoo, Thambi Ramaiah, Nassar, Poorna, Bhagyashree, and others.

The trailer of the film which released a few days before had got a very good reception from the audience and it showed good promise. The film's cinematography is handled by Vishal Vittal, while the editing has been done by Anthony and Ballu Saluja. Thalaivi will have a grand pan Indian release and let us wait for the official announcement regarding the new release plans.
