A film that set everyone talking instantaneously was the Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi, the biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. The upcoming film being made as a bilingual in Tamil and Hindi, while also getting dubbed in other languages, has resumed filming post lockdown on Thursday in Hyderabad, producer Shailesh R Singh confirmed in an interview with Mid Day. He stated that Kangana is joining the sets for its final schedule starting today, which will go on till December 10, under AL Vijay's direction. Speaking to the English daily, Shailesh R was quoted as saying, "We will be shooting the climax sequence along with the other portions of the film. Kangana will start shooting from today until December 10. Since things are more relaxed now, we can pull off this crucial scene."

Kangana Ranaut too informed her fans of heading to Hyderabad to film Thalaivi in an Instagram post. She wrote, "It’s never easy to say bye but time to say bye to my mountains, leaving for last schedule of Thalaivi to Hyderabad, post that cos of back to back filming commitments might not be back in Manali anytime soon but thank you Himalayas for giving me shelter in testing times". Director AL Vijay had earlier this week during an interview praised Kangana Ranaut for her efforts for Thalaivi and complimented her for her dedicated hard work. In response, the National Award-winning actress tweeted saying, "Thank you Vijay sir not many men acknowledge a woman’s brilliance, dedication and efforts.... you are one person I met in my life who enjoys my talent as much as his own gifts.... wow!! Amazing to know such a great human being."

Apart from Kangana Ranaut, Thalaivi has Aravind Swami playing legendary actor and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, popularly known among the masses and the classes as MGR. Jointly being produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh under the Vibri Media banner, a short leg of filming on the Jayalalithaa biopic had been completed in October amidst the pandemic, with the team following all necessary precautionary measures as advised by the government and the health department. Kangana had shared a few pictures of her look, with the actress then revealing that she had gained 20 kgs for her character in the film and was working out to shed it off for her next films. A teaser for Thalaivi was released earlier this year to a rousing response, with a promo for Arvind Swamy as MGR as well receiving strong feedback from fans.

Thalaivi's star cast also includes Prakash Raj, Jisshu Sengupta, Poorna, Madhoo, Bhagyashree, among others, with music being composed by GV Prakash, who shares an excellent track record with director AL Vijay. Legendary writer KV Vijayendra Prasad has penned the film's screenplay, with the film's release plans to be decided once production has completely wrapped up.
