Geetu bags Golden Lamp Tree Award

Popular Malayalam-Tamil actress Geetu Mohandas, who recently married cinematographer Rajeev Ravi on November 14, won the prestigious Golden Lamp Tree award for the best short film at the IFFI in Goa for her directorial debut Kelkkunundo. The award carries Rs. 5 lakhs.

The film, according to the jury Chairman Shaji N. Karun, was selected for "the directorial integrity and for the effectiveness in handling the theme with needed intensity in visual imagery. The award is for a well-crafted and poignantly acted film about the trauma of progress seen through the innocence and blindness of a child." Kelkkunundo was selected from among 206 films from 26 countries.

Geetu said: "This is an award for everybody, including the crew who assisted me in making the film." Kelkkunundo is produced and cinematographed by her husband Rajeev Ravi. The film has also been selected for the Rotterdam Film Festival and Mumbai International film Festival.
