Due to the intensity of the second wave of Covid-19 and uncertainity prevailing over the reopening of theatres across the country, the makers of several notable Tamil films are said to be in talks with leading streaming platforms for a direct OTT release. Last year, we saw movies like Ponmagal Vandhal, Penguin, Soorarai Pottru, Mookuthi Amman, Andhaghaaram, Dil Bechara, and many other films coming out directly on OTT streaming platforms. Having said that, a section of media recently speculated that Hansika's 50th film, Maha is most likely to have a direct OTT release on Disney Hotstar platform.

However, the speculation has been denied by the film's director, UR Jameel. The debutant filmmaker requested the fans to be patient for a few more days and called this news to be fake. Taking to his official Twitter page, UR Jameel wrote, "fake news ! I totally understand @SilambarasanTR_ sir fans feelings, I know its been almost 4 yrs since #Maha started but please wait few days more to know the exact update of my film #MAHA n I always grateful to str sir fans for the support n luv towards my film #MAHA -U.R.J". This clarification from Jameel has come as a big sigh of relief for Simbu fans who wanted to witness the movie in the big screens.

The film features Silambarasan TR in an extended cameo and the fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing him alongside Hansika after a long time. As director Jameel has mentioned in his post, Maha has been under production for quite a long time and we hope that the film sees the light of day very soon. Maha marks Hansika's 50th film and the film's posters garnered wide attention among the netizens. The film is expected to showcase the actress in a never before seen dimension.

Apart from Hansika and Simbu, the film's star cast also includes Srikanth, Thambi Ramaiah, Sanam Shetty, Karunakaran, and others. Produced by V Mathialagan under the banner of Etcetra Entertainment, the film has music scored by Ghibran and cinematography handled by R Madhie. John Abraham has edited the film.
