Popular South Indian actress Naira Shah was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday along with her friend Ashiq Sajid Husain for the consumption of charas (cannabis) from their hotel room in Juhu, Mumbai. An official stated that the NCB had conducted a search of their room at a leading five star hotel in the wee hours of the morning after they were tipped off of an alleged drug use. During their probe, the anti-drug agency had recovered one gram of charas that was rolled into cigarettes. A report stated, "The room was raided at 3 am and the duo were in possession of one gram of Charas, rolled into cigarettes."

Naira Shah had been celebrating her birthday at the hotel on Sunday night and went to her suite with her friend Ashiq Sajid Husain. Based on a tip-off, the Santacruz Police arrested the duo in their hotel room after they found around one gram of charas rolled into cigarettes. An officer said. "An investigation into the matter is underway. We are trying to find out whether she is involved in any drug racket.". According to the IPC Section 274, the production/manufacturing/cultivation, possession, sale, purchasing, transport, storage, and/or consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance are prohibited. 

Both Naira Shah and Ashiq Sajid Husain have been booked under the National Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act for alleged drug consumption. They were taken to the hospital after their arrest for a medical examination before they were to be produced at the court. The report states that the duo had consumed the banned drugs at the birthday party. Naira and Ashiq were later granted bail on Monday, with the police currently investigating the source of the drugs.
