After India's first nuclear test carried out on May 18, 1974 in Rajasthan's Pokhran, no nuclear tests took place until 1998. On May 11, 1998 the tests were initiated, unannounced to the international community. Pokhran-II was the series of five nuclear bomb test explosions. It consisted of five detonations, one fusion and 4 fission bombs. The brain behind this was of Kalam's.

The test site in Pokhran, in the northern desert state of Rajasthan, is only about 150km from the border with Pakistan. Kalam, who had supervised the Pokhran-II explosions as the chief of the DRDO, camping in the Thar desert, said that the testing was a "defining moment" in the country's history.

It was led by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who shortly convened a press conference to declare India, a full-fledged nuclear state.

And now, 21 years later, on the same day, 11th of May, Abhishek Agarwal Arts has announced on Twitter that a biopic of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam will be made under their production. The producers of the biopic will be Ramabrahmam Sunkara and Abhishek Agarwal.
