Run for a noble cause

The exhilarating Citizen’s Run is back. Yes! The 10th edition of Citizen’s Run will take place at 3:30 p.m. on July 20th; the run starts at Lady Wellington College on Marina Beach and will end at the War Memorial.

This event started in 1996 to create fitness and social awareness amongst the populace of Chennai; growing in fame and importance over the years, it has become an integral part of many regular participants’ lives including well-known personalities from all walks of life such as cinema, sports, politics, and many more. Some of the VIPs who regularly participate in this event are: sportsmen Ramesh Krishnan, Krishnamachari Srikanth and Vishwanathan Anand and actor Suhasini Manirathnam. This year, actors Shobana, Radikaa and Swarnamalya will be joining the run this year.

The funds collected by this event will support about 35 plus worthy and needy organisations and NGOs which extend their helping hands to the needy. The chief source of the event’s funds is the sales of T-shirts which the runners wear while participating. A T-shirt costs around Rs. 150, but the ones who cannot afford to buy them have sponsors who are only too happy to help. The Run is the most inclusive event that Chennai witnesses every year.

So, be there at Lady Wellington College on Marina beach at 3:30 p.m. on July 20, 2008 to run for a noble cause.
