Regional movies sideline Bollywood at 58th National Awards
Regional movies, especially from the Tamil and Malayalam movie industries, dominated the 58th National Awards, which were announced today. Tamil movies Aadukalam, Thenmerku Paruvakatru, Enthiran (Robot) and the Malayalam movie Adaminte Makan Abu grabbed most of the awards, leaving little for grand Bollywood movies.
Most of these regional movies, except Enthiran (Robot), were produced with small budgets compared to grandiose Bollywood movies. Dabangg won an award for being the mass entertainer, and Ishqiya won awards for its music, while most of the key awards for best direction, movie, acting, production and cinematography went for the regional movies.
