Priyamani on cloud nine

Bagging a National Award right in the beginning of one's career is no mean feat; Priyamani has been pinching herself ever since the awards were announced a couple of days ago.

“I am quite overwhelmed with congratularory calls and can’t think of celebrating until these calls stop. Of course, I knew the film had been entered for the awards, but I never expected to win,” she laughs giddily.

She adds, “This award has made me more humble and responsible as I wish to be more selective about my roles in future. I don’t want to throw away such a wonderful opportunity.”

The Malayalam actress, who is doing very well in Tamil films, is now doing a Malayalam film, Thirakatha, opposite Prithviraj and a Tamil film that is a remake of Classmates. Priyamani was also praised for her roles in Nava Vasantam and Yamadonga. Her Telugu debut, Pellaina Kotthalo, saw her being recognized as one of the most promising young stars in Tollywood.

She played a blind woman in Toss (which did average business) and her role got noticed. Her next movie is slated to be opposite Nitin, of the famous 8 pack abs.

Now that Priyamani has bagged the nation’s most prestigious award, it remains to be seen whether she can use this to establish herself as a thespian, not just a glam doll.
