Azhagappan debuts in Tamil

Malayalam cinematographer Azhagappan, who  has been the key figure behind the camera for a decade, creating  perfect visual splendours in films like Agnisakshi, Chandu Pottu, Chocolate, Ore Kadal, Rasathanthram, Photographer, Chotta Mumbai and Kaazhcha, is all set to foray into Tamil with Valmiki, directed by debutante Ananthanarayanan.

Well-known as a cinematographer who enjoys shooting with natural light, Azhagappan was quit his job with Doordarshan in 1996 to become a full-time film cinematographer. His work in Agnishakshi by Shyamaprasad won him the Kerala State Award in 1998. He has directed a telefilm Anna that won the State award for the best telefilm. He has ventured to other languages like English with Tom George's Gandhi Park and Hindi with a Rajeev Nath film.

Valmiki features Akhil (of Kalloori fame) and Meera Nandan (who appeared in the Malayalam film Mulla) in the lead roles. The hero plays the role of a pickpocket; the heroine runs a day nursery. They meet under a peculiar situation, which changes the attitude and behavior of the hero. The film deals with this change of negative attitudes into positive attitudes. Music is by Ilayaraja and. Vaali pens the lyrics. Editing is by V.T. Vijayan.
