Every since the release of Prithviraj's Celluloid, appreciation kept pouring in from all the quarters. But along with accolades, the film attracted controversies also. A particular scene in the film depicts that the then Home Minister K.K. Karunakaran and Cultural Secretary Malayatoor Ramakrishnan denied J.C. Daniel his due and this has not gone with the supporters of Karunakaran.
