After Slumdog Millionaire, it's Angel of God
After Danny Boyle's Academy Award winner Slumdog Millionaire, here comes yet Angel of God, another film on Mumbai slums! While Slumdog Millionaire narrated the story of Jamal Malik, an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, the new film revolves around a single character called Moosa Bhai, a don emerging from Mumbai's Dharavi. This film will be directed by Malayalam director Rajiv Anchal, the maker of Adharvam (1989), Njan Gandharvan (1991), Butterflies (1993), Kashmeeram (1994), Guru (1997), Rishi Vamsam (1999) and Pilots (2000).
Notably, Rajiv Anchal's Guru was nominated for an Oscar in the foreign category section in 1997. Rajiv says Angel of God will made in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil; It is based on the novel 'Angel of God' by Jyothi Menon.
"I am signing up with director Rajiv Anchal very shortly to transform my novel into a Malayalam movie. Currently, many producers, including Tamil and Hindi, are evincing interest in striking a deal with me to produce a movie based on my novel. The book subtly brings to light the different kinds of people and situations one encounters in life; people, who wear masks of decency to get along, the ones who come into your life and touch you and events that change your life forever..." Jyothi Menon reportedly said to a news agency. For this novel, Jyothi alais Jyo as she is popularly called, said she�spent five years in research and three years to write this book.
Talking about the novel, director Rajiv Anchal said that the�plot of the novel is fit for a cinema story. "This story can be transformed into a good screenplay. It has all the qualities to be adapted into a movie, which I would be doing," he said, adding that the deal would be finalized this week and he would decide on the cast after that.
