IFFI 2009 at Goa: Indian films are very popular in Thailand

Ace Thai director Nonzee Nimibutr said that his inspiration stems from everyday events with prayer, meditation and the prevalent political scenario in the country. The man  behind the new wave of Thai cinema said that the government does not have a major role to play in the upliftment of the film industry. Thailand produces about 40 films annually to its extremely small Thai market where the average Thai watch three to four films per year.

Thai writer, producer and director Yongykoot Thongtongtoon said he makes movies keeping in mind the challenge that people face living together with people different from themselves.

Both Nimibutr and Thongtongtoon are open to the idea of collaborating with an Indian film team to expand their audiences as "Indian films are very popular in Thailand.during our childhood, there were more Indian films being screened in Thailand than now. We will include more Indian films in our festival next year," they said.
