Looks like the Centre has decided to lift the restrictions on smoking scenes in films. But the decision comes with few conditions; apparently the Centre have also ordered that the actor lighting up will have to do a 20-second anti-smoking promo to be screened once at the very beginning and a second time, after the interval. Also, a a static anti-smoking message will have to be shown on the screen throughout the smoking scene.

The decision came following protests from filmmaker Mahesh Butt and UTV Software Communications Pvt Ltd, who are planning to release their films which is against the Centre's criteria.
