Recession in Bollywood?

It sure looks like the recession blues have hit Bollywood also. Yes! Bollywood, the entertainment abode of India, is also taking measures to combat recession.

Yash Raj Films, one of India's leading film making companies, has recently laid off 20 employees as part of its cost-cutting initiatives. The employees' list includes even executive producers who have served the company for 5 years. Affected employees are perplexedabout what to do next. Some have plans to quit Bollywood and hunt for jobs in other sectors.

The YRF office, however, refused to comment about this lay-off which comes as a shock as the production house is doing very well with the recently-released, much-talked-about blockbuster Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (RNBDJ). Headed by renowned filmmaker Yash Raj Chopra, the production house is preparing for the release of its much-anticipated 2009 release New York starring John Abraham and Katrina Kaif.

Bollywoodseems to be wallowing in the current global recession. The slowdown is seen in the low-tempo marketing of films and renegotiating of contracts by production houses.

Let us hope the dark recession clouds clear soon!
