Deepika Padukone to lead parade

Deepika Padukone, who made it in the first go with her noteworthy performance in Om Shanti Om, will be leading the 28th Indian Day Parade as Grand Marshal in the US on August 17 to celebrate India's 61st Independence Day.

Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), the organizers of this parade, have chosen Madison Avenue in Manhattan as the venue this year. Also present at the occasion will be former Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, confirmed Yash Paul Soi, FIA President. The prime agenda of this year's annual parade will be to highlight Indian American progress and unity and harmony with other communities.

Deepika has taken the over the baton from Priyanka Chopra, who had donned the role of Grand Marshal last year when Sunita Williams was the guest of honour.
