Akshay Kumar in Murugadoss' next to be produced by Vipul Shah

It's two back-to-back full-on action films for one-time Action Kumar, Akshay. Three, if you count the sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, where we hear the action would be more cerebral than overt.

But it's full-on bone-crunching action for Akshay in his next two films: Rowdy Rathore and now, Ghajini director A.R Murugadoss' next Hindi film to be produced by Akshay's friend Vipul Shah. This film, which would have the most unique action of Akshay's career and hopefully in the history of the action genre in Bollywood, goes on the floors in March.

The Akshay-Murugadoss project has taken longer than expected to take off. Says a source, "Murugadoss was all set to remake one of his Tamil action films with Akshay. The Hindi script had been rewritten keeping in mind Akshay's pan-India image. Murugadoss, who in many ways spearheaded the resurgence of action cinema in Bollywood with Ghajini, heard of a spate of Hindi remakes of Tamil-Telugu action films that have been released during the past year and are expected to be released in the coming months. Those include Vipul Shah's Force, a remake of the Tamil smash hit Kaakha Kaakha and Prabhu Deva's Rowdy Rathore."

That's when all of Murugadoss' plans for Akshay changed. Rather than a remake of a Tamil hit, Murugadoss started writing a new script, this time an original one, with no super-hero doing stylized action.

Says Murugadoss, "I'm aware of all the action remakes in Hindi. I don't want to comment on them. All I'll say is my second Hindi film will have action very different from Ghajini. I've decided to make an original screenplay with Akshay Kumar for producer Vipul Shah with no stylized action."
