A daily wage labourer, who stabbed a class XI girl to death at her own home was arrested by the Mamallapuram Police on Friday. The girl reportedly was home alone when the incident happened.

According to sources, Ashok (20) was a daily wage labourer from Andhra Pradesh and was hired by a contractor in Mamallapuram. The man saw the contractor's daughter and allegedly approached the family asking for her in marriage. The family refused his offer of marriage several times and he allegedly threatened the girl's father that he will kidnap the girl if she was not married to him.

On Thursday, Ashok barged into the girl's house when she was alone and began an argument. It is unclear if the neighbours went to the girl's aid. He allegedly whipped out a knife and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing. The girl, who was taken to a nearby hospital, succumbed later. The culprit was picked up from a hideout in the area and a case has been registered against him. Inquiries were on.
