Delhi: Girls have been protesting at the Gargi women's college under the Delhi University in the national capital after a mob of drunk men barged into their college during their 3-day-long college festival and molested the girls on the campus.

It was alleged that the men, who came in a truck and barged in through the gate, were part of a 'support CAA' protest that had happened nearby. The incident had garnered outrage within hours on the social media, though no pictures of the incident have been made public. Written testimonies of victims, however, are being circulated online. Many students stated that when a student rushed to the Principle's office, they were told to "stay away if they were that scared." The protesting students, who were seeking a fact-finding inquiry, were also demanding that the headmistress resign.

The incident made it to the parliament with INC member Gaurav Gogoi making a scathing remark, however, there has been no action taken till Monday evening. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has given a Zero Hour Notice in Rajya Sabha. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken note of the charges.

According to sources, a similar incident had happened in the same college last year. Though the students had given a complaint, entry of strangers was written off as a 'security breach' rather than seen as harassment. Students say that there was a pass system at the gates to allow authorised men to come in during the fest, as it was a women's college. While the incident in 2019 had perhaps 50 people barging in, students say there were over 100 "drunk middle-aged men" in the campus on February 6.

Students alleged that the men were chanting "Jai Shriram" as they scaled walls and climbed trees to jump into the women's college. They groped women and reportedly laughed at the women who tried to resist. Some women were locked up in bathrooms and most were groped by 'gangs' of men. Some were even locked up inside bathrooms. Women were fainting due to panic attacks, said one tweet. The Delhi Police is reportedly investigating. However, there have been no arrests in the case even though there reportedly were over 100 middle-aged men on the campus.
