Delhi: The Delhi police earned another round of bashing on Twitter and other social media platforms after a self-proclaimed Hindutva fanatic wielded a gun at the proters at Jamia Milia and shot a student. Even in the video, the protesters could be heard calling out to the police, and exclaiming, "the police is not doing anything!" even as a battalion stood unmoved behind the armed man as he slowly backed up, abusing the protesters and brandishing the gun.

According to the ANI, Delhi police identified the man as 19-year-old Ram Bhagat Gopal Sharma, a resident of Jewar area, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh. He has been connected to the Bajrang Dal. The incident happens on the 72nd anniversary of the day when Nathuram Vinayak Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi dead. "who wants Azadi?! I'll give you azadi!" yells the man before shooting once at the protesters.
A Kashmiri student, identified as Shadad was injured in the hand. The Delhi police drew further flak after they made the injured boy climb over the barricade instead of removing one to allow him to leave for a hospital. Praveer Ranjan, the Special Commissioner of the Delhi Police, later met the victim at the hospital and stated that the incident happened in a "split second". Inquiries are on.
