Tollywood will be shifted to Chennai: Chiranjeevi

Megastar-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi said that if any further violence happens to film production units in the state in the name of Telugana split, the filmmakers will be forced to relocate the industry to Chennai.

He was speaking to the media after interacting with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram at his office in New Delhi. He apprised the Home Minister of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Chiranjeevi said that the meeting was meaningful.

"I repeated the statement made by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah regarding the migration of industries, including film production houses, in the wake of the ongoing agitations and the huge revenue loss of more than Rs. 100 crore each day to the state exchequer over the past few days,” he said after a 45-minute meeting with the Home Minister.

Meanwhile, Congress leader D. Srinivas came down heavily on Chiranjeevi for raking up the issue of the film industry shifting its operations to Chennai in the wake of attacks. "People owning studios and other infrastructure have told me that they were not going anywhere. All news about the film industry planning to shift to Chennai has been raked up by the PRP chief. Chiranjeevi does not even own a studio or film infrastructure in Hyderabad. How can he speak on behalf of the film industry?" he asked.
