Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday issued a new bulletin to the press regarding the number of coronavirus cases in the state. The government in their latest announcement said that 1,515 new COVID-19 positive cases have been recorded in the state with the total number of people affected by the infectious virus in Tamil Nadu rising to 48,019. On the other hand, the worst affected district in the state, Chennai, has for the first time in nearly two weeks recorded less than 1,000 coronavirus cases with the count for June 16 registered to be at 919 and the total in the city now reaching 34,245. Furthermore, the TN government has also conducted 19,242 tests across the state today, which has been declared to be a new record with the grand total for testing to date standing at 7,48,244. 

The day has also seen 49 people succumbing to the deadly effects of the coronavirus with the state's death toll currently standing at 528. Meanwhile, the past 24 hours have seen a significant improvement in the number of people who have recovered with 1,438 patients getting discharged taking the total number of people recuperating from the infection to 26,782. Tamil Nadu has made commendable progress on the recovery front with the day seeing 1,000+ patients getting discharged.
